Sharonview Federal Credit Union and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

Feeding the community

Elan recently joined credit card partner Sharonview Federal Credit Union to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Volunteers worked together to fill over 1,100 backpacks with easy to prepare meals and snacks for school-aged children who may not have access to food over the weekends and holidays. The volunteers also packed each backpack with an Elan dart ball for the children. In addition to the initial $12,500 donation, during the event, Elan and Sharonview surprised the food bank with a $5,000 donation on-site to help fund their work to end hunger.

The food bank serves people in 24 counties throughout North Carolina and South Carolina where over 512,000 people live in poverty, including 168,000 children and 50,000 seniors. The $17,500 Across the Country donation will further their mission by providing 117,500 pounds of nonperishable food and fresh produce.

"The number one goal at Second Harvest is to end child hunger. With over 168,000 children in our region at risk of hunger every day, this money will primarily go to our initiatives that fall under this goal."
